One of the best up and coming authorsAfter thoroughly enjoying Jake's Magical Market, I had high hopes for J。R。 Mathews。 My expectation was a sequel to that book, but imagine my surprise when I found an entirely new book with two planned sequels! Naturally I had to check it out。 Needless to say, I absolutely loved Portal to Nova Roma。 The world building is very well done, the character interactions feel real, and the dialog is polished in a way that indie authors often fail to provide。 I highly One of the best up and coming authorsAfter thoroughly enjoying Jake's Magical Market, I had high hopes for J。R。 Mathews。 My expectation was a sequel to that book, but imagine my surprise when I found an entirely new book with two planned sequels! Great bookI really liked the novel take on the portal fantasy。 The mc is powerful but not to the point it takes out all of the suspense and he has to work hard to get better。 Interesting world and varied powers。 Can't wait for the next book。 Great bookI really liked the novel take on the portal fantasy。 The mc is powerful but not to the point it takes out all of the suspense and he has to work hard to get better。 Interesting world and varied powers。 Can't wait for the next book。 。。。more

Entertaining but flawedRight first off the book is entertaining, everything is written well enough so that it is readable and fun。The bad, characterization is rough。 None of the characters are well developed and many of them feel very similar。Internal logic and science is very inconsistent。 The author uses lots of magic science mixed with what seems to be poorly understood real science a lot。 Now this is a fantasy book so many things would get a pass, but the internal rules are not consistently Entertaining but flawedRight first off the book is entertaining, everything is written well enough so that it is readable and fun。The bad, characterization is rough。 None of the characters are well developed and many of them feel very similar。Internal logic and science is very inconsistent。 The author uses lots of magic science mixed with what seems to be poorly understood real science a lot。 Now this is a fantasy book so many things would get a pass, but the internal rules are not consistently followed。The MC is overpowered。 YMMV on overpowered MC but not only does he start out overpowered but he then consistently gets more power lavished on top of him until everything just becomes trivial and nothing is a challenge。 。。。more

Scratches an itchI am currently listening to Jake's Magic Market, another book written by this author。 I saw somewhere that he also wrote this book and that it was pretty good。 It's a good story and has some good advancement。 While not a city builder, it does have some aspects。 There is currently no stat blocks like "congrats mayor。。。。 build a lumberyard" etc。 I did enjoy how smoothly the story flows for me。 Scratches an itchI am currently listening to Jake's Magic Market, another book written by this author。 I saw somewhere that he also wrote this book and that it was pretty good。 It's a good story and has some good advancement。 While not a city builder, it does have some aspects。 There is currently no stat blocks like "congrats mayor。。。。 build a lumberyard" etc。 I did enjoy how smoothly the story flows for me。 。。。more

Epic Awesomeness This story of a young entity going to a magical Earth was fantastic。 The humans have allowed hundreds of dungeons to thrive and overflow while the rich and powerful do nothing。 He must cull the monsters and make a safe home for himself。
Raunak,
Interesting lore and a very unique protagonist, but the writing is so amateurish that I had to force myself to continue。 Plus, there's very little surprise to be had in any of the events。 Interesting lore and a very unique protagonist, but the writing is so amateurish that I had to force myself to continue。 Plus, there's very little surprise to be had in any of the events。 。。。more

Excellent first book in the seriesA good read。The MC is a bit Mary Sue but likeable and not too omnipotent。 I enjoyed reading both this and the authors other book Jake's Magical Market。Some different and interesting game mechanics going on in both。I look forward to reading more from both series。 Excellent first book in the seriesA good read。The MC is a bit Mary Sue but likeable and not too omnipotent。 I enjoyed reading both this and the authors other book Jake's Magical Market。Some different and interesting game mechanics going on in both。I look forward to reading more from both series。 。。。more

Really GoodI didn’t know what to expect going in aside from the initial interesting premise。 But the book quickly gripped me and I binged through it in short order。The story follows an OP MC AI who makes himself a human nanite body, finishes the portal tech that humanity started, and patiently scans the multiverse for a world where the laws of the universe are slightly different, magic is a thing, and the parallel earth has humans。Too bad the MC discovers that the world is post apocalyptic after Really GoodI didn’t know what to expect going in aside from the initial interesting premise。 But the book quickly gripped me and I binged through it in short order。The story follows an OP MC AI who makes himself a human nanite body, finishes the portal tech that humanity started, and patiently scans the multiverse for a world where the laws of the universe are slightly different, magic is a thing, and the parallel earth has humans。Too bad the MC discovers that the world is post apocalyptic after taking a one way portal。 Not wanting to be stuck on a desolate rock after humanity dies out, the MC decides to try and rebuild civilization, starting small。The MC is like-able and feels very human for the entire book。 He’s hyper competent because of his AI brain, perfect body, and control over nanites (that can heal him and create anything given the necessary materials and a pattern, such as firearms, armor, and even enchantments)。 Though it’s not a close match by any means, the MC reminds me of Rezkin from The King’s Dark Tidings series with how he strategizes / plans on his own, running circles around companions who are just not at all on his level (but are still useful companions)。A lot happens in the book, and despite its length, some sections and encounters felt almost like diary entries, ie the MC summarizing what had happened over a journey, especially toward the end。 This wasn’t really a problem since getting stuck in the weeds could lead to pacing issues, but it is something worth noting。 。。。more
Jodi Wysong,
another fantastic story! You definitely have a way with words! This book was a welcome surprise。 The way you build a world and it’s characters and the system is unique and so fun, especially in this genre!
John,
Enjoyable readIt has what i enjoy, base building character development and a plot that could grow for the next few books
William Howe,
BalancedOne the one hand, the MC is physically OP and has modern knowledge。 On the other hand…the MC is incapable of ‘magic’。 Can’t learn it, can’t use classes that have it, can’t figure out how it works。And that’s how it balances out。Dungeons, classes, crafting, and fighting。Already pre-ordered the next book。
Branden DeVault,
Excellent new seriesI prepurchased the next two books in the series after an hour of reading。 Highly recommended。 Interesting directions the story could go from here。
Davis W。 Edwards,
good bookGood story - I’m looking forward to the sequel。 Good world building。 The plot keeps moving。 Despite the limited character building and no real relationships, it all works in the context of the story (a main character struggling with what it means to be human)。 Overall, the book is a breath of fresh air in a genre that is often stagnant。
Ryan McCoin,
I really enjoyed this one。 It is a very strong start to a series with solid, intelligent characters, a logical system, and an interesting world。 I am looking forward to more of this series and hope to see the sequel soon。
Bridgette,
surprisingly funIt had a bit of a rough start and def OP MC but it’s an enjoyable read。 If you like litrpg give it a shot。

Immensely talented authorI'm here becuase I love Jake's Magical Market so much I wanted to try his other work。 This book has so many concepts I don't like in fantasy books, such as guns and non magical MC, however it is still so damn good。Mathews is just talented he knows how to pace his books well so no single Arc every feels long and overdone。 While I feel he suffers from what all author suffers from when It comes to lowering the MCs talents we are sold on at opportune times its not truly that Immensely talented authorI'm here becuase I love Jake's Magical Market so much I wanted to try his other work。 This book has so many concepts I don't like in fantasy books, such as guns and non magical MC, however it is still so damn good。Mathews is just talented he knows how to pace his books well so no single Arc every feels long and overdone。 While I feel he suffers from what all author suffers from when It comes to lowering the MCs talents we are sold on at opportune times its not truly that bad。 His reasoning is valid and acceptable This will be an amazing audible when the time comes。 。。。more

This is a strange mix of sub genres that just works。The style of writing is very much slice-of-life, it has a slow build up with a heavy emphasis on details。 The world state is classic litrpg, it is basic and open to possibilities。 As it continues there is the introduction of base building, with all that that entails。 Normally this kind of mashup is clunky, but this just works。 The characters are interesting, the action is consistent。 The growth has feeling and depth。 When you reach the end, you This is a strange mix of sub genres that just works。The style of writing is very much slice-of-life, it has a slow build up with a heavy emphasis on details。 The world state is classic litrpg, it is basic and open to possibilities。 As it continues there is the introduction of base building, with all that that entails。 Normally this kind of mashup is clunky, but this just works。 The characters are interesting, the action is consistent。 The growth has feeling and depth。 When you reach the end, you truly feel that you have watched something being built, and that is all anyone can reasonably ask for from a book。 。。。more

One hell of a read!Okay so first off I want to say that I am by no means affiliated with the Author。 I also rarely give a review。 But as this is a new author who has created probably one of the best reads for me this year and I would list it in one of my Top series overall。 Know this I read around 150 books on average a year。 Some years are higher while others can be lower。 I love reading and will often reread books or listen to audible versions of the same books。On to the book:Honestly a well t One hell of a read!Okay so first off I want to say that I am by no means affiliated with the Author。 I also rarely give a review。 But as this is a new author who has created probably one of the best reads for me this year and I would list it in one of my Top series overall。 Know this I read around 150 books on average a year。 Some years are higher while others can be lower。 I love reading and will often reread books or listen to audible versions of the same books。On to the book:Honestly a well thought out book series and I read what I assume to be his first book as the merchant book series which showed the flaws of all first books from a new aspiring author。 I feel J。R Mathews has learned what he did wrong within his first book and improved on this new series。 It is a long read for many but for what you get it has many arch's an development points that build up the characters slowly。 For me who reads a lot of the Lit-rpg Genre it is a breath of fresh air。 I would say that there is no love triangle which thank god I would loose my mind over。 The character development is intense and adds to the whole world building experience。Bonus points:Honestly it reminds me a bit of the 'good guys series', a pinch of 'the last physicist', and the depth of the world around you from books like kings dark tidings!Ps。 Author I hope you keep up your work, I am only disappointed that your patron teirs only include one since I would easily pay 15-20$ a month for a sneak peak at the next book for which I already pre-ordered 。。。more

This is one of the best LitRPG and progression books I have read this year。 Even better than Jakes magical market。 Setting is interesting and compelling。

AwesomenessIf you havent read jakes magical market then do so as that series is as good as this one is, its a long book but i could not put it down once i started reading the world building is awesome and the main character is certainly different from anything else which is no bad thing in a genre stuffed with the same generic waffle, so hidden gems like this sparkle and i hope become another great addition to your bookshelf。No spoilers just read it you will enjoy it。

Better & longer than its contemporarys-a good start that only gets better-a typical Lit-RPG but in this case thats a good thing-single perspective-nano bots and the AI are not OP-neat world building base lots of potential
